Wanna make a successful iPhone game? Make it about birds! [Feature]

Let's face it, some of the most popular games for iOS are directly involved with avian affairs.  Especially those who can't fly (I don't know why Americans love defective birds, but they do!).  Arguably one of the most famous games of our decade (possibly up there with Pong and Pac-Man), Angry Birds, would be the most obvious app on that list.  This may be unfair, because it also has Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons.  Either way, it's sold over 6.5 million copies.  This puzzler, for those unfamiliar with it, involves launching birds of different species out of a slingshot.  The goal is simple, kill all of the pigs on the level.

The next game in question was one of the first games to beat Angry Birds in the battle for the #1 slot in the App Store.  Tiny Wings, an action game, involves using physics to get a bird as far as possible before the sun goes down.  The controls are simple, and the gameplay is fast-paced and gets your heart racing, this is no doubt why it gained popularity.

The next bird game that achieved the coveted #1 spot was Air Penguin.  This is another action game that deals with the pressures of being a penguin in the arctic.  It got good comments from Kotaku, MSNBC and CNET, according to the App's page.

The final "big" game is Early Bird.  This one is probably the strangest, considering it's a platforming game.  And the best news, ladies and gentlemen, is that Early Bird is free.  The other two games mentioned above are currently 99¢ in the App store.  Gameplay is exactly at the name would suggest.  "Help the early bird get the worm!" As the App Store page says.

There are several other bird games, but I'm not going into too much detail.  If you would like to check them out, they're Fluffly Birds and Go Wild Birds.

Final message?  Smart phone owners have a strange obsession with, again, defective birds.  But, because Americans love Capitalism, anyone looking to make money off of us, make a game involving a bird that can't fly.
